Beyond Print & Web

1392802971_headerAustralia in recent times has been bombarded by news of fatal shark attacks along the south coast. However this will soon become history through the correlation of graphic design and science.

Australian scientists have developed a range of marine apparel that repels sharks using specific graphical patterns printed onto wetsuits and surfboards. Developed by Craig Anderson, the recently developed graphic causes sharks to become disorientated and confused and diverts potential threat of attacks.

The apparel in fact makes the wearer ideally invisible to marine predators, manipulating the visual conditions of the sea, light and movement against the graphical pattern with a different design to suit different environments. This breakthrough finally highlights the power, versatility and broadness of graphic design while ensuring the safety of swimmers in shark-infested waters.
